Chocolate Orange and Christmas Cake: a perfect seasonal duo

Bags of chocolate orange fudge ready for Christmas

Whew, a scant 32 shopping days until the big one! Rita and I have been mixing up Christmas spices and Indian flavours to create some wonderful Christmas gift boxes and treats. Our new seasonal flavours, Christmas Cake and Chocolate Orange, are made with the finest ingredients and artisan cooking methods. I make the Chocolate Orange fudge with Green & Black's Fairtrade organic cocoa; the very best cocoa we can find. Several months ago, I doubled the quantity in the original Welsh recipe, to make our seriously intense Rich Chocolate fudge. This fudge was already delicious, but now I've added the pure extract of Seville oranges, it has an even deeper, more magnificent flavour! Great for anyone who's not afraid of chocolate; if you're used to putting a choc orange in the Christmas stockings, you could even use this as a cunning stocking filler.

Both Rita and I hand-make the Christmas Cake fudge. This is a spiced fudge but unlike our Indian spiced fudges, this is made with spices that have been traditional in Britain since the spice trade began. It's loosely based on our popular Ginger Snap fudge, but has a little less ginger and more cinnamon, cloves and other Christmassy elements. If you don't want an entire Christmas cake or Christmas pudding, or know someone similarly restrained, this a very satisfactory alternative. It's absolutely delicious with sherry or tea.

Whatever your loved one's preferences,  for an unusual, thoughtful gift, you can literally build a box of FudgePots fudge to their exact taste (including dairy-free or vegan).

We've built up the collection to a dozen familiar and not-so-familiar flavours, ranging from traditional favourites such as mellow vanilla, to our unique Indian-spiced flavours for the more adventurous gastronome. Delicate rosewater, bitter nigella seeds and piquant fenugreek are just some of the amazing ingredients we use. Choose bags or jars, as you prefer: our new Christmas jars have jolly little sparkly holly leaves and berries on the lids, and are great to keep as a reminder after the fudge has gone; while the eco-friendly bags are easy to dispose of (put them in any normal non-recycling bin; they degrade into organic compounds). Take a look at our shop to see the full range and get ideas. Mix up Christmas, Indian and traditional flavours for a rainbow medley of fudges!

Ooh, and don't forget to write a personal message, and we'll print out a pretty sticker for the inside lid, for the finishing touch.

As ever, all our fudges have several plus points:

Christmas Cake fudge: a very British use of spices

Christmas Cake fudge: a very British use of spices

  • Cat & Rita make the fudge by hand in small artisan batches. Nothing manufactured about us!

  • Rita uses her Bengali heritage to develop unique, delicious Indian flavours.

  • We package the fudge in eco-friendly glass jars and cellulose (plant-based) bags.

  • We use natural ingredients, and organic and Fairtrade items where possible. No gelatin, lecithin, E-additives, preservative or anything your grandmother wouldn't have in her pantry.

  • All the fudge is naturally gluten-free and vegetarian.

Whatever you choose, happy hunting for the perfect fudge selection: we're sure you won't be disappointed.
